Refreshing your Finder window
I really like the mac, really. However, what $%&§@ bugs me is an error in the current mac operating system and its Finder, respectively.
For example, you zip a file or resize an image, but the info pane of the Finder still shows the original file size the file has 10 years ago. Until now I always switched to the Terminal and checked with a quick “ls -al” the actual file size.

Here it is, the work around comes as a small apple script:

1 Open the AppleScript editor located in your Applications folder.
2 Simply enter the apple script code provided below into the editor.
3 Save the script as an application with the name “Update Finder”.
4 Drag the application “Update Finder” to the bar of your current Finder window (see screen shot)

Whenever, you click on the “Update Finder” icon at the Finder bar the current Finder window is updated. Brilliant!
Well, the icon, duh, not that nice. I replaced the original apple script icon with the freely available “Download” icon from [http://www.iconarchive.com/category/system/icandy-junior-icons-by-iconaholic.html].
How to change the Icon? See the Apple 101 at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304735

Finally, here is the script:

-- You can use the “Download“ icon provided at
-- http://www.iconarchive.com/category/system/icandy-junior-icons-by-iconaholic.html
tell application “Finder“
update the items of window 1
end tell

Finding new smart Mac apps with iusethis?
I'm always interested in new new smart tools for my mac, that make my life happier. Instead of searching the web or buying magazines you can also link your browser to iusethis (http://osx.iusethis.com).
With iusethis you simply define all apps you are using on your computer, and the system shows you "neighbours" that are using a high coverage of the same apps. I must admit that I found a couple of really interesting apps this way...

Hello World...
after writing a couple of notes in other blogs I finally decided to start an own. It simply makes it easier for me to post snippets on whatever topic I have currently in mind.
